The structure of an image has always been important to me. Over the last few years, though, I seem to have developed an attraction to photographing straight, vertical lines. The structure may seem a little too simple for justification, but I appreciate the fact that it allows the image to become something of a pure abstraction where the color and contrast can exist without the need to represent anything.
In my more reclusive moments, I usually wind up finding these vertical lines in my living space. Sometimes I'm surprised at how cooperative incandescent light and other artificial light sources are when photographing this sort of simple subject.
