During the first few years that I was photographing, I spent a great deal of time gaining access to architecture so that I could photograph it. I had fallen in love with architectural history while in school, and felt a surge of enthusiasm when given the opportunity to photograph a beautiful building.
Architecture inspires many different feelings in me. My initial response is very idealistic. It’s very easy for me to see the pure geometry of a building as being something that can stand by itself as a large-scale sculpture. I know that the history of architecture is usually wrapped up tightly with the political, financial or religious powers that commission the works. However, I try to look at these creations with sight that isn’t colored by the ideology that motivated their construction.
Architecture has had a long and rich history of stylistic development. I feel fortunate to live at a time when I have access to such a wide variety of architectural creations.
